JOHN BARR
John Barr lived on
the family farm all his life. He married Millie Varena Kenworthy
on Feb. 22, 1905. She was born in Mills County, Iowa, September 1,
1883, the youngest of nine children born to James and Mary
[McDowell] Kenworthy. She spent most of her childhood on a farm
east of Grant. She taught the Barr School in Pilot Grove Township
before her marriage, and first met her future husband as he rode by
the school with a team of horses, and made such a commotion the he
disrupted class, much to the teacher's disapproval. They had seven
children

John Barr died on the
family farm in 1940, and Millie moved to Red Oak, and
lived there until her death, October 24, 1964. Sons, Glen and
Russell continued to live on the family farm until Glen left
for the Army in 1942 and Russell moved to Elliott in 1947, where he
did custom corn shelling and later operated a cafe and tavern, before
moving to California.
Glen was
married June 18, 1943 to Loretta Marie Vetter. She was born and
raised in the Grant vicinity. They moved to a farm in the Pilot
Grove area in 1947, where they presently live. They are members of the
Pilot Grove United Methodist Church. They were parents of two daughters.
Nancy Louise was born Feb. 16, 1948, and married Gary Mundorf, Sept 30,
1967. They have two sons, Jeffery and John. They live in the Pilot Grove
area.
Joann Marie was born June 12, 1952. She married Bill Adams, Jan. 27, 1973.
They are the parents of three children; a son, Joshua, and twin daughters,
Jennifer and Jessica. They live in Elliot.
