Camp Mills 1917 |

From Camp Dodge, the 168th Inf. was
taken to the Polk County Fair grounds, loaded on a train and
transported to Camp Mills, Long Island. The arrived in
mid-September 1917 and were taken into the 42nd Division along with
troops from about a couple of dozen other states. Because of this
diversity, the Division Chief of Staff Douglas MacArthur, renamed
the group the Rainbow Division.
