Growing and Progressing With
this year has noted "A Century of
Progress" because its people have enjoyed social
recreation in groups as well as community effort toward
betterment.
Stanton is
always busily engaged in some form of group recreating
and accomplishment. Numerous clubs and neighborhood
organizations are consistently striving toward
betterment of city, home, school and church.
Many of
the social recreation projects take place at Anderson
park -- home of the Stanton Vikings. Stanton's famous
independent baseball team -- the first and finest
lighted park in Southwest Iowa. Beautiful Anderson
park also features picnic areas and lots of playground
equipment for the kiddies.
Community
events include Baseball Day, Stanton's fall festival of
baseball, Swedish folk dancing, smorgasbord and good
fellowship; Santa Lucia Day in early December, a
traditional welcoming in the Swedish fashion of the
spirit of Christmas; Pancake Day, a gala get-together
for a big parade, games, contests, and an evening of
entertainment; Sjona Maj, a Swedish celebration of the
coming May; Christmas Festival, a Chamber of
Commerce-sponsored prize-awarding community gathering;
and Kid Fish Day, a civic club sponsored fishing event
for all the children of the county.
Singing is
one of the basic elements in Stanton's rich social life.
Choir concerts, school operettas, recitals, and organ
concerts are all a part of the rich musical heritage
which has made this thriving community a "City of song."
It's fun to
live in Stanton. If you're looking for a place to live
when you retire, why not pick a friendly city where
everyone lives in pleasant companionship - Stanton, the
Little White City.
City
cleanliness has always been one of the things which have
made citizens of Stanton proud and near-by
farmer-citizens enthusiastic about about trading here.
Daily
attention to cleanliness of sidewalks and streets and to
cleanliness of stores and of homes has made others
conscious of the appearance of their businesses and
homes. Stanton claims its title, "the Little White
City," because so many of its firms and homes are
painted white.
But they only
stay that way because of a great civic pride which
manifests itself in constant attention to any proposal
for the betterment of life here.
Stanton
businessmen are proud to serve their fellow citizens
--whether the families of retired farmers, retired
businessmen, active farmers or in-town employees.
It is from
this pride that arise our sincere best wishes and
prayers for continued growth and success of Montgomery
county, Iowa through another 100 years.
