Luther Severson

 

S/Sgt. Luther Severson, son of Mr. and Mrs. Edward Severson, Riceville, has been wounded for the 3rd time in Italy, according to word received by his family from the war department. It was stated that a mortar shell fragment penetrated his steel helmet and gave him a scalp wound.

Sgt. Severson was awarded the Purple Heart after being wounded the first time. He also holds the combat infantryman's badge and wears four campaign ribbons.

He left with the National Guard from Mason City in 1941.
