Thorkel Nelson

Thorkel Nelson settled in Mitchell county, in 1866. He bought the northwest quarter of Section 2, in Rock Township. The first three years he lived with his brother Peter. He then built the stone house in which he now lives. He has also erected a granary, 18x32 feet, with a stone basement. He now has this land in a good state of cultivation.

He was born in Bergen Steif, Norway, April 28, 1834. His younger days there were spent in school and on the farm. He was married in 1858 to Brata Davidson. Four children has blessed this union: Sarah, Nels A., Ole B. and Hans T. In 1866 the family left their native land for America, landing at Quebec, and came from there to Iowa, and settled in Rock Township, as before stated.
