TWO COUPLES MARRIED FIFTY-YEARS
MESSRS, AND MESDAMES
HOVER AND JOHN HOVELSON
CELEBRATE EVENT

It is not the happy privilege of many people to celebrate their fiftieth wedding anniversary and it is indeed a rare occasion when two brothers, who became husbands on the same day, at the same time and by the same ceremony, come to that stage of the journey of life. However, just such an event came to Hover and John Hovelson of this city and their brides of fifty years ago.

The children of these two esteemed families very fittingly observed the fiftieth wedding anniversary of their parents Saturday and Sunday, March 19, 1871, in the Merchants hotel in this city Prof. Alva Bush, principal of the Cedar Valley seminary, united in marriage Hover Hovelson and Miss Sarah James, and John Hovelson and Miss Jane Paulson.

The children of Mr. and Mrs. Hover Hovelson-Mrs. Mattie Burnham of Osage, Mrs. J. B. Clay of Cedar Falls, Mrs. Frank Boeck of Minneapolis, Leon and Ralph of Sioux City-issued invitations to one hundred of their friends and relatives to attend a reception Saturday evening the home of their parents. The request had been made that there be no gifts, but the friends in Osage sent from the greenhouse a beautiful crystal vase filled with fifty marigolds in the center of which was tied a beautiful gold pencil.

The wedding cake was made in Cedar Falls by Mrs. Clay and two of her friends. It rose in three terraces and was decorated with white roses made of confection. The evening was spent in social converse and ice cream and cake were served the guests. Frank James of Minneapolis, came Friday evening to be present at the reception.

Sunday the children of Mr. and Mrs. John Hovelson-Mrs. Herman Whipple, Bert and Roy Hovelson of of Osage and Miss Nellie Hovelson, principal of the public schools in Littleton, entertained in honor of their parents wedding day. Alex Paulson, brother of Mrs. Hovelson, and his family also assisted in the festivities. The guests presented the bridal pair with many handsome and useful gifts.

Many years ago John Hovelson owned a grocery store in this city, but for the past twenty-five years he has been in the feed and coal business.
