Giles Nelson and Eunice Holbrook

Giles Nelson Holbrook and his wife Eunice arrived in Mitchell County in 1855. He had the first post office in Douglas Township, which was named Nelson. They had five daughters: Jane, Chloe, Carrie, Annie, and Emma, and one son: Ai N. (SIC?)

Annie married Charles Sweeney; Emma married E.P. Foster of Orchard. A picture of Holbrooks Corner (Inn) has never been found, that is why this picture is so important as this is the family where Douglas Township got its start with their post office, and continued to be a stagecoach stop until the railway was completed through Osage.

G.N. Holbrook held one of the first township offices.
