GEO. H. CROW, of Port Louisa Township, one of the first settlers of this county, was born on the 21st day of May, 1815, in Jefferson County, Ohio. He was the oldest of eight children, whose parents were Joseph Crow and Martha Humphrey. They were farmers by occupation, and remarkable for piety and intelligence. The early education of George was very moderate. Up to the age of twenty-two, he remained with his parents on the farm. In 1833, he came with his father’s family to Warren County, Ill., where he remained for three summers.

In 1836, he moved to this county and settled in Grandview Township, where he lived till the Fall of 1839, when he moved to Port Louisa Township, where he has continued to reside as a successful farmer ever since. In 1837, he was united in marriage to Jane Williamson, a native of Ohio, who died October 26, 1845. In 1846, he was united in marriage to Eliza J. Ronolds, a native of Indiana, and a daughter of John Ronolds, one of the first settlers of the county. Mr. Crow is the father of ten children, eight of whom are living. Politically, he is a republican. Religiously, he is an earnest member of the United Presbyterian Church. Socially, Mr. Crow is very pleasant and affable, has always led an upright life, and is now the leading farmer of his community. The father of Mr. Crow died on the night of the 4th of July, 1866, at the advance age of eighty-nine years, in Grandview Township. The Crow and Ronold Families have always been remarkable for the tenacity with which they have held to this county as a home.
