McKeanN. W. 1889N.W. McKean one of the old settlers of Mt. Vernon, died Saturday morning at seven o'clock. He had reached his three score years and ten and had rounded out a very useful life. He was the father of Mrs. M. H. Denney of this city and of Ed McKean, the postal clerk of Marion. OtterbeinMrs. Mary1889Another old settler passed away yesterday afternoon at about 4 o'clock, at which time Mrs. Mary Otterbein, wife of Philip Otterbein, breathed her last. Mrs. Otterbein came to Cedar Rapids in 1854, living here ever since. She was a consistent member of the First Presbyterian church and died a christian death. She was a great bible student and had a wonderfully retentive memory in comitting and keeping scriptural texts. ClarkOliver1891The first death has occurred in that historical circle, with such light hearts though old in life's troubles, met in picnic here as the old settlers of Linn county. Oliver Clark, who lives near Mount Vernon died at his home December 14th. He came here in 1840 and being somewhat eccentric, had never had a photograph taken until taken in the group, which Hon. J.
