Ida County has a Newspaper Index from 1872-1974 that includes births, deaths, marriages, anniversaries, divorces, and adoptions. The following adoption notices were typed from Ida County online newspapers, identified from that Newspaper Index, then put in order by last names.

 

Carolyn Ann ANDERSON

Adopt Three Boys
Mr. and Mrs. Myron Anderson (Virginia Crawford) of Burbank, S. D., announce the adoption of three boys on September 5.  They are David, 5: Roger, 8; and Richard, 10.  Mrs. Anderson is the eldest daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Clyde Crawford and formerly resided here. Jon Calvin ANDERSON
Announcements have been received by friends here from Mr. and Mrs. James Anderson (Donnabelle Phares) of Bismark, N. D., that they have adopted a little boy into their home.  The little fellow was born September 3, and arrived at their home January 5.  They have named him Jon Calvin. New Arrivals

Joy & Joyce ESLICK
May in this community will be interested to know that the twin sisters, Joy and Joyce Eslick, who were placed in the care of the Iowa Children’s Home association last May, have found a good home.  They are in a modern farm home, with middle aged people who are well-to-do and want the girls because they love children.  The girls attend a consolidated school, going forth and back in a bus.  When Joy and Joyce went to Des Moines they were in the third grade.  Just a short time ago they were promoted to the fifth grade.  This has been accomplished by the personal supervision of the workers of the association. Mrs. Enid Hoops received word that a 6 lb., four day old boy has been adopted by her son and wife, Dr. and Mrs. Wm. Hold Baby Shower Friday
Mrs. Milton Borchers, Mrs. Kenneth Streck, Mrs. Donald Christiansen were hostesses Friday afternoon for a baby shower for the newly adopted daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Bernard Lansink. Janice Sue & Joyce Ann LORENZEN

Shirley & Dale Rogers OLSON

Verna PETIT
Mr. and Mrs. Kyle Petit have legally adopted the latter’s niece, Verna Spotts, who was the adopted daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Edward Spotts.  The little miss will be known as Verna Petit.  She lost her mother in a fire a few years ago and this fall lost her foster mother.  She has been making her home in the F. Kelley Kaye SCHMIDT
Mr. and Mrs. Roger Schmidt of Cherokee have adopted a baby girl born May 27, 1967 and weighing 7 pounds.  They have named her Kelley Kaye. Kathleen Mary SHAHAN
Mr. and Mrs. Alvin Schroeder of Holstein have received word of the adoption of a 6lb. 10 oz. baby daughter by their daughter, Joan and husband, Mr. and Mrs. Gerald P. Shahan of 1657 Cherry Ave., San Jose, California.  She has been named Kathleen Mary, born May 29th.  The other grandparents besides Mr. and Mrs. Alvin Schroeder are Mrs. Bernice Shahan, 3160 Dodge St., Omaha, Neb. Baby boy VANGREITHUYSEN
Mr. and Mrs. C. A. VanGreithuysen have adopted a six weeks old baby boy, who was brought to their home Sunday by a representative of the Iowa Children’s Home, Des Moines.  The little fellow was greatly welcomed by his new sister, Barbara, who came to the VanGriethuysen’s a few years ago from the same institution. Barbara Ann VANGRIETHUYSEN
Rev. and Mrs. C. A. VanGriethuysen the first of the week brought a winsome little mite of humanity to their home, to whom they have given the name of Barbara Ann.  The child was six months old Wednesday.  She was brought from the Iowa Children’s Home, Des Moines, and adoption proceedings will be resorted to by the parents as soon as the time limit of probation has been completed.
