"Elizabeth McClelland married George Washington Blaisdell 17-Aug-1870
in Waupun, Dodge, Wisconsin. Two weeks later, 31-Aug-1870,
they left Brandon, Wisconsin for Humboldt, Iowa. in a horse driven, covered
wagon. She was 21 and George was 35. George's sister, Sarah
Blaisdell had married H. S. Cadett and preceded George to Humboldt.
The family arrived, 3-Sep-1870 and opened one of the first farms
in Weaver: four years before the township was organized, eight years before
the first post office, and nine years before the train reached Humboldt.
One of the first crops he raised was flax. "Lizzie," as (she was
known) talked about hanging buffalo hides over the open windows in the
log cabin to keep the snow out.
They were active in the Congregational church (organized with a charter
membership of twenty-two on 27-Sep-1871). George was
elected Road Supervisor in 1874. They lived in Weaver at least through
the 1885 census. They had six children born there: Jessie Maude,
Tirzah Georgina, James McClelland, Jeannie May, Sarah Elizabeth Emilia,
and Frank(ie) Marie Blaisdell (1871 - 1883)."
