Thompson, Dorothy G. nee Thomasek 1915 - 2002WAUCOMA -- Dorothy Glenn Thompson, 87, died Wednesday, March 20, 2002. A. Funeral Mass was held at 10:30 a.m. Monday, March 25 at St. Mary's Catholic Church, Waucoma with Rev. Richard Tomasek, S.J. as Celebrant. Interment was in St.. Mary's Cemetery, Waucoma with Brian Schellberg, Tommy Griffith, Duane Thompson, Cord Hutchens, Rick Hutchens, Jason Hutchens, Luke Hutchens and Otto Schellberg as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers were Jack Adams and Ray Thompson. Visitation was Sunday, March 24 at the Waucoma Funeral Chapel with a 4 p.m. Parish Rosary and a 7 p.m. Scripture Service. Dorothy was born Aug. 10, 1915 in Waucoma, the daughter of Albert and Glen (Woodruff) Tomasek. She graduated from Waucoma High School in 1933 and earned a teaching certificate from Upper Iowa University, Fayette. She taught country school in the Waucoma area. On Sept. 7, 1939 she was united in marriage to Roger Thompson. They lived in Decorah until 1959 when they moved to Texas. They moved back to Iowa in 1969 and Dorothy went to work for Northwestern Bell Telephone Co., retiring in 1981. After retiring she lived with her daughters until entering the Manor Care West Nursing Home in Temple, TX in February of 2002. Dorothy enjoyed sewing, crocheting and doing crossword puzzles. Survivors include four daughters, Priscilla Thompson, Gilcrest, CO, Glenna (Otto) Schellberg, Mt. Vernon, Louise (Tom) Griffith, Belton, TX and Debbie (Rick) Hutchens, Georgetown, TX; 26 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; five great-great-grandchildren; two sisters, Norma (Jack) Adams, Waucoma and Joyce Peterson, Memphis, TX and numerous nieces and nephews. Preceding her in death were her parents; her husband, in 1974; one brother, Albert Tomasek and one sister, Edna Crum. Arrangements were handled by Burnham-Wood Funeral Home, West Union.
