Sjobakken, Arthur P. 1923 - 2002NEW HAMPTON - Arthur "Art" P. Sjobakken, 78, New Hampton, died Thursday, May 2, 2002 at Allen Memorial Hospital, Waterloo of'natural causes. Memorial Services were , held 2 p.m.- Sunday, May 5 at .Trinity Lutheran Church, New Hampton with. Pastor David Bergstrom and Pastor Kevin Frey, officiating. Music for the service was provided by Dennis Strum as organist and Pete and Phyllis Willadsen as vocalists. Interment was in the New Hampton Cemetery with military rites by the New Hampton Fae Stine American Legion Post #38, Honorary pallbearers were Dan Filger, Jim Snyder, Carroll Oelke, Harlan Pose, Kurt Hemesath, Bob Rigler, Joe Kerwick, Linus Bodensteiner, Dan Klenske, Dale Gates and Duane Nelson Visitation . was 2-6: p.m. Saturday, May 4 at Hugeback Funeral Home, New Hampton and an hour prior to the funeral at the church. Art was. born in New Hampton on May 3, 1923, the son of Rudolph and. Carrie (Otteson) Sjobakken. He attended school in New Hampton. On Jan. >29, 1942 at St. John's 'Lutheran Parsonage, Charles >City he married Beryl M. Bartz. Art entered the U.S. Navy on April 13> >1943 where he served as an Aviation Ordanceman Second Class until he was honorably discharged on'Dec. 13, 1945^ After the war, he worked four years for the former Oliver'Tractor Co. in Charles City and then went to work for the City Clerk's Office in New Hampton. In ,1954, Art began working for First National Bank of New Hampton until he retired in 1988. He was an active member of Trinity Lutheran Church, where he sat on the church council and was the assistant financial secretary for 30 years.' Survivors include his wife, Beryl; one son, Paul (Sally) Sjobakken, Waterloo; one aaugnter, Gayle Kearney and friend Henry Schnieder, Des Moines; four grandchildren; six great-grandchildren and one sister, Sigrid Neff, Sedona, AZ. Preceding him in death were his parents; three brothers, Orvin, Rudolph and Walter Sjobakken and a sister, Doris Treat Bartz.
