Papousek, Dorothy M. nee Watzel 1912 - 2002FREDERICKSBURG - Dorothy Mae Papousek, 89, died Sunday, June 9, 2002 at the Sunrise Guest Home in Fredericksburg. Funeral Services will be 10:30 a.m. June 14 at St. Frederick's Catholic Church, Fredericksburg with Father Harpel officiating. Music will be provided by Mary Gansen as organist accompanying Lori Carolan as vocalist. Hymn selections will be "How Great Thou Art", "Prayer of St. Francis", "One Bread, One Body" and "Be Not Afraid". Interment will be in Rose Hill 'Cemetery, Fredericksburg with Cleo Watzel, Louis Sostak, Duane Cahoy, Ruben Maulis, Harold Watzel and Edward Watzel as casketbearers. Dorothy was born Sept. 7, 1912 in Colome, SD, the daughter of Felix and Anna (Rina) Watzel. She graduated from Winner High School in Winner SD. She attended colleges in Springfield and Aberdeen, SD and later on Upper Iowa University in Fayette and UNI in Cedar Falls. Dorothy was united in marriage to Richard Papousek on June 22, 1937 in Winner, SD. Dorothy was a school teacher for 37 years, teaching in Tripp County and Gregory, SD, rural Lawler, Fredericksburg and Sumner. Her last 21 years of teaching were with the third grade in Sumner, retiring in 1978. The family farmed in Gregory, SD until moving to the Fredericksburg area in 1941 where they continued to farm until a decline in health caused the couple to enter Sunrise Guest Home in 1995. They celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary in 1997. Dorothy was a member of St. Frederick's Catholic Church, Fredericksburg. She enjoyed watching TV, sewing and working with flowers. Survivors include her son, Milton (Geri) Papousek, Fredericksburg; three grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren and two sisters, Ann Cahoy, Fredericksburg and Lillie Turhe, Rapid City, SD. Preceding her in death were her parents; her husband, Richard, in 1997; three brothers, Oscar, Felix and Charles Watzel and one sister, Mary Maulis.
