Koenigs, Thomas J. 1906 - 2002Services were held on Tuesday, April 9, 2002 for Thomas Koenigs at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Adams, Minn, with the Rev. Gregory Leif officiating. Interment was in the Sacred Heart Catholic Cemetery. Thomas J. Koenigs, 95, of Adams, passed away on Sunday, April 7, 2002 at the Staceyville Community Nursing Home, Staceyville, Iowa. He was born September 10, 1906 in Meyer, Iowa to Peter and Anna (Kioeekner) Koenigs. He attended Sacred Heart School in Meyer, Iowa While he was growing up, he worked for various local farmers. After his marriage to Mildred Kioeekner on February 9, 1932, they moved to the Adams area and began to farm for themselves. When he retired in 1961 from farming, he worked for the Great Western Railroad for 10 years. . The the early 1970’s, Thomas and Mildred moved to Adams. He resided in Adams until his health forced him to move into the Staceyville Community Nursing Home in July 2001. Thomas was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church, the Knights of Columbus, Rosary club and Railroad Union. He enjoyed playing cards, gardening, fishing and spending time with his grandchildren. He enjoyed making rosaries and in his lifetime he made over 25,000 rosaries for missions. Some of his friends may still have one. He was preceded in death by his wife (January 1997); daughter Catherine; seven brothers, John, Joseph, Aloysious, Leo, Mathew, Henry and Philip; six sisters, Kiate, Wettstein, Theresa Schneider, Mary Fasbender, Elizabeth Loecher, Anna Hartogh and Gertrude Koenigs. His is survived by his daughters and sons-in-law, Marian Huntley-Lickteig and her husband Fred of Rose Creek, Minn.; Theresa and Roger Harding of Nashua, Iowa; sons and daughters-in-law, John T. and Carol Koenigs of Rochester, Minn., Fred and Jean Koenigs of Adams, Minn, Ronald and Theresa Keonigs of Cambridge, 111.; Dick and Pat Koenigs of Stewartville, Minn., 22 grandchildren, 48 greatgrandchildren, sister-in-law, Rosina Koeings of Staceyville and several nieces and nephews.
