Kellner, John J. 1927 - 2002IONIA — John J. Kellner, 74, Ionia, died Sunday, June 30, 2002 at the Ninth Street Chautauqua Guest Home in Charles City of congestive heart failure. Funeral Services were 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, July 3 at United Methodist Church, Nashua with Pastor Marion Sindt officiating. Burial was in Greenwood Cemetery, Nashua. Visitation was from 3 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, July 2 at Chen-oweth and Son Funeral Home, Nashua, and again one hour before services at the church. John was born Dec. 13, 1927 in the farm house which he lived his entire life in rural Ionia, the son of John C. and Dorothy (Hicks) Kellner. He was baptized and confirmed at St. John's Lutheran Church, Nashua in 1942. He graduated from Nashua High School in 1945. He was united in marriage to Lorraine Rogers of Greene on Sept. 23, 1956 at United Methodist Church, Greene. The couple recently celebrated their 45th wedding anniversary with a dance and reception at the Moose Lodge in Charles City. John farmed on the family farm in the Republic area until retiring in 1992. He was a member of United Methodist Church, Nashua, Moose Lodge #1011 Chapter 1095 of Charles City and Polka Club of Iowa. John served on the Chickasaw County Pork Producers, Bremer (Zounty D.H.I.A., Chickasaw County Landfill and the Chickasaw County Farm Bureau. John enjoyed roller skating as an amateur in his younger years. He enjoyed and loved his registered Holstein dairy herd. He also enjoyed dancing for many years at the Riviera Ballroom in Janesville, playing cards and spending time with his grandchildren, family and friends. Survivors include his wife, Lorraine; two sons, Leroy, Charles City and Charles, Ionia; two daughters, Diane (James) Oltmann, Grimes and Cindy Kellner, Waterloo; a daughter-in-law, Ruth Kellner Swinton, Nashua; a mother-in-law, Iva Rogers, Waverly; five grandchildren and two sisters, Gerry (Stanley) Buschling, Plainfield and Margaret Wright, Ionia. Preceding him in death were his parents; a son, Craig Kellner, in 1999; his father-in-law, Burr Rogers and a brother, Robert, in 1934.
