Hackman, Magdalen nee DeBettignies 1912 - 2002CHARLES CITY - Magdalen. K. Hackman, 89, Charles City, died Monday, March 11, 2002 at Riverside Chautauqua Guest Home. A Funeral Mass was held 10:30 a.m. Thursday, March 14 at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, Charles City with Rev. Msgr. Stanley J. Hayek officiating. Music was furnished by the I.C. Funeral Choir. Burial was in Calvary Cemetery, New Hampton. Visitation was from 2-8 p.m. Wednesday, March 13 with a 3 p.m. Rosary and 7 p.m. Scripture Service at Fullerton Hage Funeral Home, Charles City. Visitation was also an hour prior to mass at the church on,Thursday. Magdalen was born April 25, 1912 in New Hampton, the daughter of John ana Margaret (Kipp) DeBettignies. She attended rural school and St. Mary's Catholic School. On Aug. 17,1929, she was united in marriage to Clem Hackman. She worked at Oliver Farm Equipment Company during World War II. She later worked as a caregiver and for the County Farm. She enjoyed playing bingo, cards, cooking canning tomatoes and spending time with her family. She was a member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, the Rosary Society, the ACCW ant the VEW Auxiliary. Survivors include one daughter, Betty (Harold) Haus; three sisters, Imelda Zipse, Denver CO, Arlene (Milan) VanKleeck, Littleton CO and Margaret (William) Cero, Charles City; a daughter-in-law, LaVonne Hackman Charles City; 11 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren and five great great-grand children. Preceding her in death were her parents; her husband Clem, in 1952; one son, Virgil four brothers, George, James Sylvester and Florentine and one sister, Olivia Roethler. Memorials may be directed to the I.C. Educational Development Fund or the I.C Vision 2000.
