Funeral services for Roberta Gaffey of Riceville were held at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, May 11 at the Conway Funeral Home in Riceville with Rev. Michael Carey officiating. Honorary pallbearers were: Murray Holmes, Don Adams, Roger Lenz, and Roger Minnis.

Roberta, 79, died Tuesday, May 7, 2002 at the Mitchell County Regional Health Center in Osage.

Roberta Jean Gaffey was born May 7, 1923 in Erie, PA, the daughter of Howard and Aline (Davis) Cox. She attended school in Erie and graduated from high school in 1941. She furthered her education by attending nursing school in Meadville, PA and became a registered nurse.

On April 15, 1944 she married Paul Gaffey at Buckley Field, CO.

Roberta worked as a nurse on Air Force bases and she was director of .nursing at the Riceville Hospital and Stacyville nursing home. She also worked as a hospice nurse after she retired.

She enjoyed the hills of Pennsylvania where she grew up.

She is survived by her husband Paul of Riceville; four sons: Michael J. of Grand Forks, ND, Dennis of Kennewick, WA, Mark of Riceville, and Brian of Riceville; four daughters: Paula Dinger of the Federated States of Micronesia, Maureen Gaffey of St. Paul, MN, Karen Schofield of Riceville, and Theresa Gaffey of St. Paul; 10 grandchildren; and two sisters: Lila LaBella of Eldred, PA and Nancy Osmer of Kane, PA.

Roberta was preceded in death by one son: Thomas; one grandson; and her parents.
