Elliot, Glen R. 1909 - 2002FREDERICKSBURG - Glen R. Elliott, 92, Fredericksburg, died Thursday, July 11, 2002 at Sumner Community Memorial Hospital, Sumner of natural causes. Funeral Services will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday, July 20 a t Hillcrest Baptist and Brethren Church, Fredericksburg. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday, July 19 a t Chenoweth and Son Funeral Home, Fredericksburg. Glen Robert Elliott was born Dec. 4,1909, the son of William and Bertha (Swanger) Elliott an the family farm south of Fredericksburg. He attended Social Center School, but illness forced him to drop out of school in the eighth grade. He worked with his brothers, Raymond and Earl, digging in a gas pipe line near Roland that ran from Oklahoma to Chicago and Minneapolis in 1930. He later worked on a crew near Williamstown that put curbing on the highway. He also hired out picking com by hand in addition to helping his parents with farming. He married Mildred Small on Oct. 30, 1937 in Greene.,The couple initially , farmed three miles north of Fredericksburg until 1954 when they purchased the Knutson farm, a mile south of where they were living. Glen was a grain and dairy farmer who loved the land and his cows. The couple retired in 1974 and built a new home on the east edge of Fredericksburg where they enjoyed sharing their colorful display of flowers with all who passed by. Glen was a life long member of the Church of the Brethren before it merged with the Baptist Church to become the Hillcrest Baptist Brethren Church. Survivors include his wife, Mildred; four sons, Robert (Susan), Sumner, Larry (Donna), Mt. Morris, IL, Terry (Faye), Fredericksburg and Tom (Susan), Valparaiso, IN; 15 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren and one brother, Raymond Elliott, Fredericks- Preceding him in death were his parents; two sisters, Lula Smith and Gertrude Greene and one step-brother, Earl Elliott. Memorials may be directed to the family or your favorite church or charity
