Crooks, Hazel Arlene nee Dopp 1917 - 2002NEW HAMPTON -- Hazel Crooks, 84, New Hampton, died Tuesday, March 26, 2002 at Muse Norris Hospice Inpatient in Mason City after an eight year battle with cancer, Funeral Services were 10:30 a.m. Thursday,- March 28 at St. Joseph Catholic Church. New Hampton with Reverend Carl Schmitt presiding. Sr. Lorraine Loecner was the I organist and accompanied the cantor, Joyce Shatek, as well as the St. Joseph Resurrection Choir singing "Be Not-Afraid" and "On Eagles Wings". Lectors for the service were granddaughters Kristina MacMaster and Katie Crooks. Hazel's children placed the pall. Burial was in Calvary Cemetery, New Hampton with Robert MacMaster, Ryan Crooks, Adam Crooks, Daniel Crooks, Jared Crooks and Robert Kolbet serving as casket bearers. Honorary casket bearers were Art Kohls, Henry Brunner, Tom Mahoney, Mike Njus, Clair Roethler, John Loes and Jerry Huegel. Visitation was from 3 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, March 27 at Conway-Kolbet Funeral Home, New Hampton, where there was a 4 p.m. combined CD of A and Rosary Society Rosary and a 7 p.m. Scripture Service. Visitation was also an hour prior to services at the church. Hazel Arlene Crooks was born June 18,1917 in Alta Vista, the daughter of Herman and Christine (Erion) Dopp. She graduated from the Alta Vista Public School. After her schooling she lived with Rita and Clarence White working as a housekeeper and taking care of their children. She then went to work for Gerald Crooks as a bookkeeper. At .Crooks. Implement, in Alta-Vista. On Oct. 24, 1946. she married Gerald F. Crooks in Waterloo. The couple resided in Alta Vista ana continued to operate the implement business together until their retirement in 1971. They then moved to the Smith Century Farm north of New Hampton where they resided until Gerald's death in 1996. Hazel then moved to New Hampton. She was a member of the Alta Vista VFW Auxiliary^ the Catholic Daughters of the Americas Court Joan of Arc #388, St. Joseph Church and the rosary society. She was also active in the Cancer Support group in New Hampton. She enjoyed playing bridge and 500 and traveling. Survivors include two daughters, Cheryl (Luke) Madsen, Brooklyn Park, MN and Denise (Bill) Brinker, Maplewood, MN; three sons, Craig (Jan) Crooks, Mason City, James (Laurie) Crooks, Minco, OK and Kevin (Debbie) Crooks, Alta Vista; 12 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. Preceding her in death were her parents; her husband, in 1996 an half-brother, Alvin Wismer and a daughter-in-law Janine Crooks.
