Baltes, Virgil M. "Dutch" 1915 - 2002NEW HAMPTON - Virgil M. "Dutch" Baltes, 86, New Hampton, died Tuesday, March 5, 2002 while visiting his daughter in Hawaii. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, March 12 at St. Mary's Catholic Church, New Hampton with Rev. Carl Schmitt celebrating the mass. Music will be provided by Ann Crook, organist and Bill Roths, soloist. Lector is Amanda Meyer, The offertory gifts will be presented by Zachary Perkins, Emma Perkins and Elizabeth Meyer. Interment will be in St. Mary's Cemetery, New Hampton with John Condon, Carl Krueger, Richard Bonfig, Gary Kuehn, Robert Gorman ana Mark Kramer as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers will be Joe Sheehy, Robert Dee, Lou Heintz, Shirley Messersmith, Robert Krueger, Gert Mikes and Florence Krause. Visitation was held after 3 p.m. Monday at Hugeback Funeral Home, New Hampton with a Rosary at 4 p.m. and Scripture Service at 6:30 p.m. Virgil was born May 15,1915 in New Hampton, the son of Nick and Amelia (Schupinitz) Baltes. He attended St. Mary's Grade School and graduated from New Hampton High School in 1933. He was united in marriage to Phyllis Etter on Jan. 4, 1940 at St. Mary's Rectory in New Hampton. He was a partner in Baltes and Dee Oil Company from 1935-1941. He was employed at the New Hampton Municipal Light Plant from 1941 to 1961. From 1961 until his retirement in 1978 Virgil was employed at the University of Northern Iowa. Survivors include two daughters, Pat (Duane) Lynch, New Hampton and Nancy (Charles) Lee, Hawaii; four grandchildren and six greatgrandchildren. Preceding him in death was his wife, Phyllis, in 1992 and a brother, Ralph Baltes.
