Arens, Eugene J. "Louie" 1933 - 2002LAWLER — Eugene Joseph (Louie) Arens, 69, Lawler, died Sunday, Dec. 15, 2002 in New Hampton. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, Dec. 20 at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Catholic Chtirch, Lawler with Rev. Marvin Salz celebrating the mass. The pall will be placed on the casket by his children. Louis Arens will serve as lector. The offertory gifts will be presented by his grandchildren. Mass servers will be his granddaughters, Emily and Samantha Arens. Interment will be at a later date at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Catholic Cemetery. Pallbearers will be James Speltz, Jason Kuennen, Scott Kurtenbach, Tim Shimek, Jim Leibold, Robert Leo Smith, Don Kurtenbach and Darel Reicks. Visitation will be held two hours prior to the funeral at the church. Hugeback Funeral Home, Lawler is in charge of arrangements. Louie was born Feb. 12, 1933 in New Hampton, the son of Edward G. and Annie Laurie Costigan Arens. He attended Mt. Carmel Grade School and graduated from Lawler High School in 1950. On Dec. 28, 1954 he married Marjorie Elenz a t Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, North Washington. The couple lived in Lawler for 8 1/2 years and then moved to the Arens Family Farm outside of Lawler. Louie delivered LP gas for Lawler Hardware for 40 years then C.A.S.H. Lumberyard for ten more year's. He was a former clerk of Stapleton Township for many years. He loved baseball, basketball, horse races, polka music, gardening and especially time visiting with family and friends. Survivors include his wife, Marjorie; two sons, Joe (Diane) Arens, Fredericksburg and Louis Arens, Austin, MN; five daughters, Sandy (Bill) Hall, Medford, WI, Susie (Mark) Staggs, Cottage Grove, MN, Jeannie (Jeff) Wick, Elgin, MN, Alice Arens, Lawler and Amy Arens, Austin, MN; 11 grandchildren and one brother, Jim (Karen) Arens, Waverly. Preceding him in death were his parents.
