First Vote, 1869 |
FIRST VOTE – The colored men of Mt. Pleasant cast their first ballot
on Monday last. The occasion was one of deep interest to them, and they
seemed to fully realize the responsibility of the new right which they
then for the first time enjoyed. They were nearly unanimous in favor of
prohibition. (“Henry County Press”, Mt. Pleasant, Iowa, March 3, 1869, page 3) Contributed to Henry County IAGenWeb by Pat White, February 2022. |
