Flugstad was a station on the Webster and Southwestern Railroad, commonly called the Crooked Creek RR. It was located in Sec 7-88-26 in Freedom Township. A post office was established on December 17, 1890, with Michael H. Murphy as the first postmaster. This settlement is located on the line between Hamilton and Webster Counties. On June 10, 1896, the post office was moved across the road into a different building. This move put the post office in Webster County. The post office was discontinued on June 30, 1913. Today all that remains of this site is an elevator consisting of several buildings, which is operated today by United Cooperative at Highview. The old rails of the Fort Dodge, Des Moines & Southern Railroad, an electric line, which replaced the narrow gauge Crooked Creek RR, have been removed. One can easily detect the path of the rails yet today. The settlement was named for M. O. Flugstad, the owner of the land on which the depot was located.
