The first young man enlisted or drafted from Adair to
surrender his life for the cause of liberty in this terrible
world war was enrolled on history's page of heroes Tuesday
afternoon when Emil Wedemeyer, son of Mr. and Mrs. D. C.
Wedemeyer, passed away in the military hospital at For
Flagler, Wash. The cause of his death was scarlet fever
augmented by an attack of measles and also tonsillitis.
Wrestling fans were treated to another great exhibition of
the grappling game at the coliseum in Des Moines, last Friday
evening when Earl Caddock, champion wrestler of the world, won
over John Olin of Finland in straight falls.

Parkinson, son of John Parkinson of Tracey, Iowa, a former
resident of this community, died last week in a military
hospital in France, the result of scarlet fever.
At the
meeting of the local Advisory Council of Defense at the dining
hall of the IOOF building last Friday, a resolution was
adopted prohibiting the use of the German language in the
business places, on the street and over the telephone lines. |
