Lillian C. Fleck Maas was born in 1885 and died in 14 JUN 1908, with an inflammation of the brain, as the result of a tornado which struck Charles City on June 7, 1908. Her birth parents were surnamed Fleck, but Lillie and her sister Katherine later lived with their foster parents Nicholas and Emma (Rothke) Maas -- who were also their aunt and uncle.
Both Lillian and Katherine took their foster parents' surname of Maas (or alternatively Mass). Katherine (a.k.a. Catherine) later married Jules E. Gonseth Sr.
