A terrible tornado and thunder
storm passed over our neighboring town of Floyd during Friday night
last. Some half dozen buildings were demolished by the wind and four or
five families left roofless. One family, that of a Mr. Welch, received
considerable injury. Mr. and Mrs. W. were somewhat hurt by the falling
timbers of their house, their daughter's back was broken, and a son had
his leg broken. Some forty acres of timber was blown down; fields of
corn, wheat, oats, &c., were prostrated and almost entirely ruined.
The thunder and lightning that night were awful - the wind blew a gale
- and the rain fell in torrents.
