He was a naturalized citizen. 16 Mar 1936: James H. Petersen James H. Petersen, 75, died at 1 a.m. today at the home of his daughter and son-in-law, Capt. and Mrs. D.L. Risley, on Rock Island Arsenal, where he had made his home for the last six months. Mr. Petersen was born June 30, 1861 in Schleswig-Holstein, Germany, and came to America, direct to Davenport, when he was 16. He was of Lutheran faith. Surviving are one son, William Petersen, Buffalo; one daughter, Mrs. Risley; one sister, Mrs. Anna Garvey, Davenport; one brother, Peter Petersen, Wisconsin Rapids, Wis. and 10 grandchildren. The body was taken to the Hill & Fredericks mortuary where funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday. Burial will be in Fairmount cemetery. General Notes (Wife) Davenport Daily Republican July 26, 1900 Julia Petersen is suing Jas. H. Petersen. They live in the west end. Mrs. Petersen says that she objects to having a husband who, as she alleges, has been addicted to swearing at her, kicking her, biting her arm and striking her in the face. Davenport Weekly Leader Oct 30, 1900 Saturday was a rather quiet day in the District Court. In the divorce suit of Julia Petersen vs James H. Petersen, Judge Bollinger rendered a decision in favor of the plaintiff, granting her the relief prayed for and awarded her the custody of their minor children as follows: William aged 9 years, aged 7 years and Julia aged 3 years. The defendant is to have the right to visit the children at all seasonable times. She had made her home for the last five years at the Pella Nolls residence in Long Grove. Mrs. Geison was born Aug. 30, 1874, in Davenport and was educated in the city schools. Her husband and two sons preceded her in death. Surviving are two daughters, Mr. Dick Risley, Rock Island Arsenal, and Mrs. Forrest Goeke of Chicago; three sisters, Mrs. Pearl Kelly and Mrs. Alice Dunklau, both of Davenport and Mrs. Leona McCleary, Muscatine; 10 grandchildren and a number of nieces and nephews.
