His family of siblings included Rebecca, Eli, John, Silas, Frances, Mary Jane, Sarah and George Hoover. David was raised on the family farm in North Liberty, Iowa; however, in later years he did not pursue the occupation as a farmer. David married his first cousin Florence Catherine Myers Hoover, daughter of Christian and Anna Hoover Myers. For many years the Hoovers resided in a Victorian House on Summit Street in Iowa City where they raised two daughters Florence Claire and Louise Lenore. The Hoovers were very fond of horses and at that time had a barn on the back premises to house their animals. The Hoovers were also both politically and community oriented. Florence Catherine engaged in corresponding with the then president Herbert Hoover of which the letters have been handed down through the family. David Irving became interested in the real estate business in later years and worked out of an office in the Johnson Co. building in Iowa City. After thirty five years in 1937 the Hoover home which was the site of many gatherings and weddings and the haven for their two daughters was sold at auction. During the period of David Irving's retirement he made a trip out to San Diego, California to see his oldest daughter Florence Claire. It was here he passed away and was taken back to Iowa City where he is buried alongside his wife Florence Catherine in Oakland Cemetery.
