Vega, Iowa, May 31, 1897--(Correspondence)-Memorial exercises were fittingly celebrated Sunday morning at the Lamberth cemetery. The choir sang some choice selections and Rev. J. LEE and Elder SHEPARD, of Danville, made short addresses...Mr. P. BROWN and wife of Denova, visited with Mr. Eli HOCKETT and wife Sunday...C.B. CRANE and wife visited his brother near Doud's station several days last week.... Lockridge Times; March 7, 1929 - Dr. Bishop was called to the Ralph Crane home Monday morning to visit his father, Charley Crane. After examination he found him to have pneumonia. Mr. Crane has been at the home of his son Ralph since the first of January and has had his usual health for a man of his age. He is up in his eighties. His daughter, Mrs. Nellie Smith of Lockridge, Mrs. Elsie Jackson of Birmingham, Mrs. Harry Kiger and son William of Mt. Pleasant were called to his bedside Monday. At this writing he remains about the same. Jefferson Co. Ia Cemetaries Vol II: Buried at Glasgow Cemetary Stone #196 Along with Susan Catcott Crane. Obit from Lockridge Times [Iowa], March 14, 1929 pg 4 col 3: Charles B., son of Augustus and Mary Crane, was born near Marietta, Ohio, March 9th, 1842, and came to Iowa with his parents at the age of eight years where he has since lived. He passed away at the home of his son, Ralph, east of Glasgow, March 11th, 1929, at 2:15 p.m. at the age of 87 years and 2 days. On November 13, 1886, he was united in marriage to Susan Catcott who passed away in 1910. This union was blessed with eleven children, two having preceded him in death. Maudie dying in infancy and Carrie Barton on March 3, 1923. The remaining are: Irwin of Grand Island, Neb., Alva of Newton, Mrs. Cora Cooper of Salem, Mrs. Nellie Smith of Lockridge, Mrs. Orpha Kiger and William Crane of Mt. Pleasant, Mrs. Elsie Jackson of Douds, Ralph and Walter of this vicinity, also eighteen grand children, nine great grandchildren, and one sister, Lydia Dunn, of Oklahoma. He was in usual health for a man of his age until the last week when he contracted pneumonia, which resulted in his death. Besides those mentioned he leaves a host of relatives and friends to mourn his departure. He was a good citizen, a true neighbor, a faithful husband, and a kind father, and will be greatly missed by those who loved him. Six of his grandsons were pall bearers as follows: Emery Crane, Everett Crane, Orril Smith, Carrol Crane, Charlie Jackson, Dee Cooper. The music was furnished by Mrs. Jay Barton, Mrs. Harry Thompson, Wm. Wilson, and J. C. Frame, accompanied on the piano by Mrs. Wright Church. The services were conducted by Rev. J.A. Cochran at the Round Prairie Church and interment in the Glasgow cemetery. Lockridge Times; March 21, 1929 - The funeral of Charley Crane who passed away at the home of his son Ralph, Monday afternoon was conducted at the Baptist church Wednesday afternoon by Rev. Cochran, pastor of the church. The body was then laid to rest in the Glasgow cemetery by the side of his wife who preceded him in death several years ago. General Notes (Wife) Possible parents for Susan could be Samuel Valentine Catcott 14 Feb 1817-23 Mar 1898 and buried in Kilbourne Cemetery, Kilbourne, Iowa and Elizabeth 17 Dec 1819-5 Aug 1868 also buried Kilbourne Cemetery. 1870 Census her father is marked as being of foreign birth. According to Van Buren 1878 dir of Lick Creek Twp., S. V. Catcott was a farmer on Section 36 in Kilbourne. Stepmother Mary Obit from Fairfield Ledger [Fairfield, Jefferson Co, Iowa] Feb 9, 1910 page 7 col 3 Mrs. Susan Crane died at ther home two miles east of Glasgow, January 27th, 1910. Mrs. Crane's maiden name was Calcott [Catcott] and she was born at Kilbourne, December 13th, 1849. She was married to Charles B. Crane November 13th, 1866. This union was blessed with eleven children, all being alive except Maudie, who died in infancy. The following are the children: Edwin of Cloverdale, Ralph, Mrs. Cora Cooper, Mrs. Carrie Barton of Salem, William of Mt. Pleasant, Mrs. Nellie Smith and Alva of Rome, Mrs. Elsie Jackson of Douds-Leando, Walter and Orpha at home at the time of their mother's departure. Besides the husband and children who are left to mourn her loss are three brothers, William, Robert and David Calcott [sic-Catcott] and a stepmother, Mary [Nedrow] Calcott [sic-Catcott]. She had been in poor health for a number of years, but not confined to her bed until the last two weeks. There was a large attendance at the funeral services which were conducted at the home by Rev. C. J. Fix of Hillsboro Saturday afternoon, the 30th at 2 o'clock, after which the remains were taken to the Glasgow cemetery and laid to rest.
