Enclosed find Rituals and cards returned, as per Gen. Orders No. 11.
I desire information on the following
Question. What is correct form of voting
in Posts. At an adjourned meeting of Warner
Post No. 46 in voting upon motions I called
for a vote "by the usual sign of the Order" I was
informed that the vote should be taken by "ayes
and nays. I find no form in the Rules & Regulations.
I find that most of the Posts vote "by usual sign
of Mt. Order. Which is law. I desire to be right.

Special to the Gazette
Fayette--For 83 years--since 1867--members of the Dorman family have attended to the dental needs of this community.
First it was Dr. J. M. Dorman, who came to Fayette to take up the practice of dentistry. For the last 48 years it has been his son, Dr. John E. Dorman.
The Dorman practice is now being sold to Drs. M. J. and L. F. Molumby of West Union. The transaction is to be completed this weekend. The West Union dentists plan to practice in both towns.
It is not, however, his dental practice, successful though it has been, that has made the name "Doc Dorman" widely known.
As a head coach of college athletics, the doctor holds the American record for length of service.
For 47 years he has been coaching at Upper Iowa university here. His baseball and football teams have been outstanding despite a small student enrollement. Now he can devote his full time to the sideline job that he loves, starting Monday.
Dr. Dorman has long been recognized as one of the smartest in the coaching business--resourceful, original and thorough.
Only A.A. Stagg has a longer records as a coach and he is no longer a head coach. Dorman has long ranked with Stagg, Walter Camp and "Pop" Warner in length of service.
Dr. Dorman took his collegiate training at Georgetown University in Washington, D.C.
Drs. J.M. and J.E. Dorman were not the only Dormans to practice dentistry in Eastern Iowa. Dr. J.M.'s brother, Dr. Ward Dorman, practiced in Manchester nearly as long as his brother did in Fayette. And all five of his sons were Eastern Iowa dentists too.

Mrs. John Kuhens
Fayette's oldest citizen, Mrs. R. J. Kuhens, passed away at her home Wednesday about 9:45 in the morning. Mrs. Kuhens who was also believed to be the oldest resident of Fayette county, would have reached her 101st birthday May 9th of this year. As Rebecca Jane Wroe, she was born May 9, 1843, near Wheeling, Pennsylvania, the daughter of Dr. and Mrs. Samuel Wroe. They moved to Washington, D.C., at the outbreak of the Civil War. She married John Kuhens in 1861. He served as a soldier in the Civil War and she worked as a nurse in the hospital where her father was stationed. When Mr. Kuhens was mustered out of the service, she with her husband, and small son George, came west, locating first in McGregor and later came to Fayette county, which has continued to be her home. For a number of years, the Kuhens family resided on a farm in the Wadena vicinity. They later moved to her home on Main street in Fayette and has continued her residence here these many years. She was very active for one of her years, and only in the past few years did she entirely give up activities about her home. Mr. and Mrs. Kuhens were the parents of eleven children, four of whom preceded the mother in death and were Mrs. Belle Sloan and Mrs. Ethel Cousins, and two who died in infancy. The remaining children are George and Dell Kuhens of near Wadena, Mrs. D. F. Hall, Mrs. W. S. Culbertson and Ben Kuhensof Fayette, Mrs. Pearl Wenrich of Mason City and Leverne Kuhensof Akron, Ohio. Funeral services were held Friday afternoon at the Fayette M.E. church.

Dear Comrad
It is with sadness that I
have to report the death of Com-
rad Franklin S. Dewey at Long Beach
Calif. Nov. 9th. For some time past he
has been spending his Winters
in Calif. In stepping from a curb, he
slipped and fell causing unconsci-
ousness, for which his 94 years could
not save a rally call and death came
the next day, Now, as I am
the only still living member of
Post 46 it is my sad duty to
say it is disbanded. I was one
of the charter members of the
First GAR post to organize in Fayette
county and the last one to disband.
I now wish to be enrolled as a
member at large in the GAR
I hope to be able to meet with you

at an [illegible] state encampment
I am enclosing you $1.00 in annual
dues. I am as you see on St Sim-

is the fourth I like it very
much. Yours very sincerely

Curbstone Comment
Col. D.B. Henderson
The writer was much interested in the story of Col. D. B. Henderson, speaker of the National House of Representatives in Washington in post-civil war days as written by William R. Boyd, of Cedar Rapids, and appearing in the Sunday Sioux Times.
Col. Henderson will always remain as one of the outstanding figures in American history.
What we are particularly interested in is the recollections brought back by the story, to my boyhood days. Col. Henderson graduated from the Upper Iowa University at Fayette just prior to the opening of the Civil War. He enlisted as a private in Company C, 12th Iowa Infantry, and was made first lieutenant. The writer's father, P. R. Woods, was a college chum of Col. Henderson. Company C was largely, if not entirely, as I recollect, composed of Upper Iowa University students. My father enlisted as a private with Henderson and other students and later made corporals. He, however, had not then graduated. He served in the army for nearly 5 years, staying in the south to fight "guerillas" after the surrender of the southern general, Lee, and the closing of the war.
The remarkable thing is, that after five years absence from his work at the college, my father returned and finished his course as a graduate!
I remember Col. Henderson during his days as speaker of the National House. He came quite frequently to Fayette to visit some of his old army friends; as the members of Company C were very closely knitted in friendship in their war and after-war days. Those who were not lost in action served through the entire war in the same battles. I never knew of a group of men who were bound so closely together as friends, as these men who enlisted together from their college, fought side by side nearly five years of war, many wounded or imprisoned in the same prison and then returned to Fayette to live or finish college! As a boy I remember for years the reunions of these veterans as they gradually became somewhat scattered.
When Col. Henderson came to Fayette in his election campaign he always called upon my father to accompany him and introduce him to the voters. Going down the street togetherhe would say to my father: "Now Philo, you tell me the given names of the men we meet as we meet them." When my father did this, Col. Henderson would greet them very intimately as, "Hello Tom, I am sure glad to meet you (or see you again as the occasion required.)"
He was a hail fellow well met, common in his mingling with men of any class, had a good memory for names and faces. He never appeared with crutches while making his Fayette visits, but always carried a cane.
We attended many of those reunions and will never forget them; their comradeship and the enthusiasm with which men, women and children entered into the singing of various patriotic songs of those days. Besides Co. Henderson, these camp-fire reunions were often attended by Governor Larrabee and we have hear Senator Dolliver also at many of them.
