IOWA SOLDIERS BURIED AT FLORENCE NATIONAL CEMETERY


       "Florence Stockade" was another notorious Confederate prison camp, hastily constructed in the late summer of 1864 so that prisoners at Andersonville could be transferred there as Sherman's army threatened.  Soldiers were starved to death in that place and then shoveled into a mass, unmarked grave.  It is now a national cemetery.

       On 11/2/1861 he mustered into "K" Co. IA 13th Infantry

       * POW 7/22/1864 Atlanta, GA
       He died a POW on 10/15/1864 at Florence, SC

       Borden, George W., born in New York

       Enlisted on 6/8/1863 as a Bugler.
       On 8/3/1863 he mustered into "L" Co. IA 8th Cavalry
