The Leon Reporter Leon, Decatur County, Iowa Thursday, May 14, 1914, Page 1 COMMENCEMENT WEEK _______________ The Class of '14 of the Leon High School Graduates Next Week. Twenty-five Graduates. _______________ The commencement exercises of the Class of '14 of the Leon High School, will be held at the opera house on Friday evening, May 22nd. The Class of '14 is one of the largest which has ever graduated from the Leon High School, twenty-five in number, and there being twelve young ladies and thirteen young gentlemen in the class. The class presented on Wednesday and Friday evenings of last week, two class plays, "The Senior," on Wednesday evening, and "Mrs. Compton's Manager" on Friday evening, the entire graduating class appearing in the two plays, which were presented in splendid shape, reflecting credit on the ability of the cast. The plays drew capacity houses, every seat in the opera house being sold out and the total receipts for the two nights amounted to $241.65. There was considerable expense attached to the production of the plays, but a neat sum will be realized for the class to apply on the purchase of a stereopticon, which the graduating class intends to present to the schools. The plays were presented under the direction of Mrs. Marion E. Wasson, whose ability as a director are too well known to need any words of commendation. Class Day will be observed at the High School building on Friday afternoon, May 22nd, at 2 o'clock, when the following program will be given: Music. The Motto: "Rowing, Not Drifting." Prof. O. M. Gass was re-elected as superintendent at a salary of $1400, being granted an increase of $100 over last year, and he will remain with the Leon schools next year, which decision pleases both pupils and patrons immensely. The following is a list of the teachers and their salaries: |

All of the teachers elected are at present teaching in the Leon
schools except Miss Cash, and her salary has not yet been fixed. The Leon Reporter Leon, Decatur County, Iowa Thursday, April 16, 1914, Page 1 Two More Teachers Elected. _______________ At a meeting of the Leon school board Monday evening two more teachers were elected, Mrs. Vee Aiken as a grade teacher and Miss Mida Bradley as music teacher. There are still two primary teachers and one teacher in the High School to be elected. The Leon Reporter Leon, Decatur County, Iowa Thursday, May 14, 1914, Page 1 Elected One More Teacher. _______________ The Leon school board last week elected one more teacher for next year, Miss Nellie Mullins, who has been one of the efficient teachers in our school the past year. It is thought that the board will complete the work of electing the balance of the teachers in the near future, but it seems to be pretty slow work. Transcriptions by Sharon R.
