George Franklin was the second child born to Franklin and Margaret
Jane (Grimm) Burchett. He was born on a farm in Clarke County northeast
of Grand River on March 18, 1884.
Libbie Mae was the eleventh child born to James Thomas and Matilda
Frances (Perdue) Monroe. She was also born on a farm in Clarke County on

In their early years, they attended country school and went to Sunday
School and Church at Gregg Chapel. After their marriage on July 17,

1906 and Clarence Raymond on November 22, 1908. In 1909, they
homesteaded 160 acres near Gregory, South Dakota. They returned to the
Monroe farm before their third child Harold Woodrow was born on August
15, 1912.
They lived in Osceola, Iowa briefly before moving to Winner, South
Dakota where Dale Monroe was born on September 16, 1916. In the winter
of 1916-1917, they again returned to Iowa and moved to the town of Grand
River where they lived the rest of their lives. Three more children were
born in Grand River: Helen Louise on July 12, 1920, Pauline May on April
17, 1923, and Hazel Marie on December 19, 1925.
