Gosselink Genealogy,  7 Generations Davis County, IA: Jerry Green.

Even though the Gosselink family and the Den Hartog family were the last ones to arrive in the United States, they were the first of my ancestors to settle in Iowa. The early history of the Gosselink's and their arrival in the United States is told by two documents from the Archives at Central College,
Pella, Iowa. This information had been compiled by Martha Lautenbach, a second cousin of George P. Greene's.

Gerhardus and Elizabeth, with their seven surviving children, emigrated from the Netherlands to the United States in 1847. They left Rotterdam on the ship "Nagasaki" with other members of Henry Scholte's congregation of Reformed Church members on 11 April 1847. They arrived at the village
of Pella, Iowa in August 1847 after the trip by sailing vessel to Baltimore, train and canal boat to St. Louis, steamboat to Keokuk, and ox cart to Pella. ”Roofs Over Strawtown", by Sara Gosselink, gives a vivid and probably fairly accurate account, even though fictionalized, of the journey and the early years in Pella of these Dutch immigrants.
