Mrs . John B. Turner Died September 21

Mrs. Ellen Mary Turner, wife of the late Judge John B. Turner, died Thursday

afternoon, Sept. 21, 1939 at her home on West Main Street , after a lingering illness.

She attained the age of 79 years , 4 months, and 26 days. Judge Turner preceded

her in death by nine days.

Ellen Mary Barton, daughter of Penelope Poil and George Barton, was born near

Croyden , England , April 25, 1860. She came to America in March 1872, at the age

of 12 and joined the Methodist Church in childhood.

She married to Jason Gilfillan of Dallas County , Iowa , July 6, 1879. To this union

were born five children: Cora Celeste, Rose Blanche, Anna Opal , Frank Boyd, and

Albert George, all of whom survive except Frank Boyd, who died July 26, 1925 . She

is also survived by two sisters , six grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

Mr. Gilfillan passed away in January 1906 . The deceased was united in marriage

with the late John B. Turner December 18, 1907. During the remaining years they

resided in happy companionship in Warren County amid a wide circle of friends and

aquaintances who held them in high esteem.

Funeral services were held Sunday afternoon in the College Methodist Church

by the pastor, Rev. H.L.Stukey. The musical numbers consisted of a duet ,"Rock of Ages.,"

by Mrs. Kathleen Halter and Mrs. John Mayfield and a solo

"The Old Rugged Cross," by Dr. V.E. Altholz of Hawk Point. Interment was made in the

city cemetery.
