The horse thieves must look sharp ! At a regular meeting of the Garnavillo Horse Thief Detective Association, held June 10th, 1878, the following officers were elected:

The Garnavillo Horse Thief Detective Association held its meeting at the Turner hall on Monday, May 22nd, and elected the following officers for the ensuing year:

Captain - C.G. Stickfort
Lieutenant - C.W. Schumacher
Riders, as follows: Julius Pufahl, H.W. Fritz, E.W. Kregel, Wm. Beck, W.A. Tangemann, J.F. Schumacher, F. Wilker, Hy. Schumacher, Hy. Mueller and Chas. Schulte.
A very enthusiastic meeting was held, over fifty members were present.

Hook & Ladder Company Organized
The citizens of Garnavillo have organized a Hook & Ladder Company for protection against the fire fiend. The following officers were elected:
Foreman - Eugene Barnes
1st Assistant - J. W. Hudson
2nd Assistant - H. Limbech
Sec. - J. H. Tangeman
Treas. - L. C. Meyer
They intend to erect a building 12 X 30 on the east side of the public square for storing the truck, ladders, etc. A ball will be given in Turner Hall on the evening of Dec. 26th, the proceeds to be devoted to the benefit of the above company.

Garnavillo Social Literary Society
The citizens of Garnavillo, in order to establish among themselves a better union, and the foundation of principles that will tend to elevate them, have organized the society entitled, The Garnavillo Social Literary Society. The object of this society is to interest the citizens of this community in the promotion of social purity and education. The officers of the organization are as follows:

Busy Bees Organized
Garnavillo has a new society, one which is of interest to the female sex alone. It is called the "Busy Bees" and its members are supposed to make the name an appropriate one. Its meetings are held every Wednesday evening at the respective homes of the members. Following is a list of officers: Pres. - Hulda Brandt

Curious people of the male gender are warned that while bees are of a very industrious nature, they still have a very sharp sting, which is operated in a very impartial manner on all who wish to discover something which concerns them not.
