Many new residences were built in the sumĀ­mer of 1909. Elmer Browns new eight room two story house was constructed at a price of $3000. (This is currently Mrs Wetzel's property).

The Henry Bell property on Calfax and seventh street was nearing completion and was erected at an approximate cost of $4,000. It was to be heated with hot air or water.

About 1909 Harry Tillotson came from Chicago and started the Murray Tribune which lasted a year and a half. After the Murray News ceased publication, the Murray Journal was started in the south building that burned in 1968, but did not make a go of it.

Mr. O. E. Richardson operated the Murray Journal for a time in the 1950's.

Electricity came to Murray about 1911 or 1912. The first house in Murray to be wired for electricity was wired when it was built in 1908 by Virgil Daniel, two blocks east of the old fellows hall.

The first regular moving picture show in Murray was about 1917. It was housed in the Odd Fellows building. The Gem and the Palace were the silent movie houses. Occasionaly a traveling moving picture operator came to Murray in the early 1900's and showed a one night stand. The Murray Theatre began in 1939 with Margery and Alton Smith as owners and operators. They continued the business until Alton was drafted and Margery ran the business alone until his return. The business was sold in 1957 to Calvin Burgus and leased in 1959 to John Henderson and Jack Callison, who continued operating it until it burned Jan. 1, 1968.

Murray residents have had City Water since the summer of 1958. At times the wells have proved inadequate but an effort is being made to dig new wells to provide continuous water service for the users.
