Telephone switch board was located above Fair Store and remained in operation until dial came in about 1940. Operators were Mabel Castor Ulm, Rebecca Vreeland Rork.

Roy Currie

James Currie

Elgin Creamery Co., started business in Murray in 1896. James Currie moved here from New York to operate the creamery. Cream stations called skim stations were located at convenient points for the farmers. Free buttermilk was available for the calling at the

creamery, The creamery had its own ice plant and was located in the house now occupied by Dennis Lamb. James son Roy also helped for a time at the creamery. Roy later had a photograph studio in Murray and married Amy Daniel. The creamery quit business about 1904.
