The Joe Chew Family

The Chew family were early settlers in the Clarke, Decatur County area. Aaron Chew was the second son of John and Mary (Rilea) Chew. He was married to Ella German on May 30th, 1886. To this union three sons and one daughter were born. The boys were Joe, Owen and Chester. May passed away at sixteen years of age.

Joe Chew was married to Ina Bagley on March 4, 1914. She was the twin daughter of Stephen and Anna (Porter) Bagley. Her father was a veterinarian in the Murray vicinity for several years. Ina's twin sister's name was Iva (Lila). She has one other sister, Lena. She also had three brothers, Cyril and Jake who are deceased and Paul Bagley.

Joe and Ina Chew spent their entire married life in Doyle and Troy townships. They are the parents of three children, Montelle, Helen, and Willene.

Montelle Chew was married to Mildred Reeves on March 8, 1936, and have lived in Doyle township since that time. They now live on the George Coon farm. They are the parents of two children, Beverly Jo and Monty Lewis. Beverly was married on Dec. 15, 1957? to Russell Roberts and they reside in Des Moines where Russell is employed as a fireman. They have two girls, Denise- 8, and Dannielle- 6, and a baby boy, Clifford Montelle. Monty Chew

married Karen Smith on May 4, 1963, and are the parents of one daughter, Stephanie LuAnne, two years. They live on the Frank Smith farm one mile east of Murray.

Helen was married to Paul Selsor on Aug.18, 1940, and lived on a farm in Union County until 1951 when they moved to Des Moines. Paul is employed at John Deere and Helen at Farm Bureau. They are the parents of two children, Karen and Danny. Karen was married to Allen Perry on July 16, 1960, and they have one daughter, Michelle Dawn- 7. Allen attends college at the University of Iowa and Karen is employed with Civil Service at Veterans Hospital. Danny was married to Pat Clark on Sept. 18, 1967, and he barbers in Saylorville, Ia.

Willene Chew was united in marriage to Glen D. Davis on May 23, 1943, and are the parents of five children. They live on the Stephen Bagley farm south of Murray. Joe Davis was married to Dixie Chipp on Nov. 23, 1967, and he teaches school in the Lenox, Iowa, school system. Jerry married Ingrid Fear on July 24, 1966, and he is employed with the Iowa Highway Commission, and Ingrid is a beautician working in Osceola. Candace is in her first year of college at Northwest Missouri State College. Jack is a junior at the Murray Community School, and Cindy Lea is in seventh grade.
