Nicholas and Katie Hoffman Nicholas Hoffman, engaged in farming and stock raising in Madison Township, was born in Prussia, Germany Dec. 8, 1840, He came to the U, S. in 1853. He came to Clarke County in 1865 and devoted himself to agriculture. During the Civil War he enlisted in Co. E., 21st Iowa Infantry and participated in several major battles. He was married to Katie Kirsch. Their children were: Mathew, Hannah, Katie, Annie, John, Urban and Rudolph.
