Wm. Marks is the large man to the left. He started the store in the 1870's, was burned out twice and rebuilt. When he died in 1920 the store was sold to Jim Cathell and burned the third time a few years later. At one time he had a store at Hopeville also. This store was

started before the factory built shoes were hardly on the market. He made all shoes with the help of experienced shoe makers over the carved wooden lasts that were the shape and size of the customers feet for a finished product.
