"Letters To Kate" is a compilation of letters written by Captain Horace C. Baldwin during his Civil War activity. The letters were transcribed by Susan Madsen Harris a great-great-granddaughter of Horace Baldwin. In addition to the letters, her manuscript includes a Company "C" Descriptive Book which contains information on the Company during the time of Captain Baldwin.
Ms. Harris was most generous in offering her manuscript to Chickasaw County Iowa GenWeb with the intent of converting her transcribing into format presentable on the web site and providing it to others who may be interested in the 38th.

There is no index nor appendix of the manuscript; however, between this web site's Site Search and the 'find' or 'search' in your browser you can search the document on key words. We caution you to vary the spelling of your keywords and we have, on this page, provided known variances in the spelling of some surnames.
Be sure to read the "Forward" in the manuscript to get an understanding of the purpose of the content. The manuscript contains many names from Chickasaw but the compilation of Company "C" goes beyond Chickasaw so not only will this be a valuable research document for Chickasaw researchers but for many with interests in this Regiment and Company.
