Washington High School Homecoming QueenRuth Peterson October, 1953 INTERVIEW HOMECOMING QUEEN OF ‘53
Long
live the queen! Long live the queen! These were the enthusiastic cheers
made for our petite 1953 Homecoming Queen Ruth Peterson. She is truly
capable of taking that role as well as the many other responsibilities,
she has had throughout her seventeen years. As a sophomore she held the
offices of secretary of homeroom and secretary of the sophomore class.
Her junior year she was given the office of president of homeroom and
again secretary of her class. This year Ruth is vice president of her
homeroom, secretary of the senior class, treasurer of G.A.A. and an
active member in G.S.C. and A.S.C.
When asked to name her likes,
she said Bill, (her steady), movies, parties, fried chicken and
scrapbooks. Later she replied she liked everything in general, which is
easy to understand because she is so pleasant herself. There is,
however, a couple of things that disturb her, these being insulting and
bossy people. To give you an idea as to the appearance of our
Homecoming Queen, the best adjectives are short in stature, cute
features, blond hair, and snappy blue eyes. Even though “Tootie” (as
she is called by her friends) is little, her spirit and friendliness
are hard to beat.
Ruth thinks the most exciting moment she has
ever experienced was last Friday when she was crowned queen. Upon
realizing she was the chosen girl, Ruth refused to enter the assembly
and it was with some persuasion that she finally made her entrance. She
did, however, remain calm and poised up to the very second; then the
tension became too great and she does admit becoming a little bit
frightened.
Future plans are indefinite, but marriage is
being seriously taken into consideration. Whatever job she finds, be it
housewife or school teacher, she will do her best.
The final question asked was “How do you like Washington High, Ruth?” She replied, “Now
that I’ve gotten used to the school, I like it pretty well. I don’t
however, care for the ideas of getting our report cards every nine
weeks instead of every six weeks.”
To you Ruth, our Homecoming Queen of 1953, Washington High says, “May the future bring happiness and success!”
