July 1892 Never
more with the little steamer, City of Cherokee, play the Sioux. It has
been sold, and last week it was taken from the river, hauled through
town, loaded on a flat char and shipped to its new owners at Twin
Lakes. (Source: Cherokee County Historical Society scrapbook)November 1892 John
McDonald, who lives five miles north west of town, had a mighty narrow
escape from a bad accident last Saturday. He was drivinginto town
accompanied by Mrs. McDonald and his daughter when the horses took
flight in the neighborhood of the standpipe. They ran down to the
courthouse, where the buggy went over and the McDonald family went out.
The conveyance was smashed into kindling wood and Mrs. McDonald was
quite badly hurt, but the others escaped with only minor bruises and
cuts. We are glad to say that Mrs. McDonalds injuries are not serious. (Source: Cherokee County Historical Society scrapbook) October 1942 After living in Cherokee 59 years,
Mrs. Frank Trego, pioneer Cherokee county woman, moved from the city
Thursday night to make her home at Monroe, Wis., with her daughter,
Mrs. Doris Blair. Mr. and Mrs. Trego came to Cherokee in 1883 when this
city was a sprawling collection of shacks on the western prairie and
had lived here continously until his death and until she left the city
Thursday night. (Source: Cherokee County Historical Society scrapbook)
