George was the son of John Bull & Anne Downs. George married Catherine Bruce. They were the parents of Ellen, Mary, Cornelius, William, Nathaniel, Alfred, George, & Charles. Some of these children changed their last name from Bull to their mothers maiden name of Bruce.

George Bull came to the United States in 1855 and located in Jones county, Iowa, where he engaged in farming. In 1870 he moved to Cherokee county.
Added in March 2023 - ObituaryThe Cherokee Democrat Semi-Weekly - Tuesday , October 17th, 1899 - George Bull, an old resident of the county, died at the home of his son in Pilot township on Friday Oct. 13, 1899, age 81 years. The burial took place at Good Hope on Saturday, the funeral being largely attended .

The deceased came to America from England, settling in Clinton county, Iowa, remaining there until 1871, when he moved with his family to Cherokee county. His wife died about three years ago.He leaves four sons and two daughters, all of whom reside in this county with one exception, Mrs. Smith, whose home is in Greene county. The others are Wm. Bruce, C.H. Bruce, G.A. Bruce, C.D. Bruce and Mrs. Jos. H Groves. The sons had their names changed from Bull to Bruce years ago.

Be it remembered, that at the term of the District court begun and held at Cherokee, Iowa on the 29th day of September, A. D. 1879, an order was made by said court changing the name of William Bull to that of William Bruce, to take effect on the first day of January, A. D. 1880. Said court further ordered that notice thereof be published in the IOWA FREE PRESS for four successive weeks prior to the said first day of January as by law provided. Witness my hand and the seal of the District court, hereto affixed this (SEAL) 9th day of November, 1879.
