Edward J. Shoemaker's name has been transcribed from the list of Civil War Veterans on the Cass Co. Soldiers Monument exactly as printed on page 135 of Cass County in the World War 1917-1918-1919 (1919). However, Edward J. Shoemaker was the son of Andrew J. Sheumaker (Shoemaker), and Andrew served in the the Civil War, not Edward. Andrew served in the 31st Iowa Infantry, Co. F., and died March 22, 1902 in Atlantic, Iowa. Andrew is buried in the Wiota Jameson Cemetery. Andrew was originally from Jackson County, Iowa and after being discharged for disability moved to Cass County, Iowa Many thanks to Civil War researcher Steven Hanken for contributing the above info and correction.
