E. C. THOMPSON was born in Bureau County, Illinois, on January 14, 1855. He was raised in Illinois and taught school there before coming to Lewis in 1879. He soon moved to Marne and taught school here. Beginning in 1883, he operated the drug store here in Marne which was owned by Dr. J. M. Emmert of Atlantic. E. C. Thompson married Ella Spangler in 1881 and, as of 1884, they had one son, Jay V.
