CLAUS HANSEN was born in Schleswig-Holstein, Denmark, about the year 1835, but was of German parentage. He married Sophia and the couple had two children, William and Frederick. The family sailed for America and proceeded directly to Brighton Township, where they arrived in January, 1880, and purchased a farm three miles north of Marne. The Hansens lived with the John Walters family in Marne for two years before moving to their new farm on March 1, 1882. Claus Hansen passed away on March 4, 1904. Sophia Hansen, born in 1842, passed away in July, 1916. Frederick Hansen died in 1917 and William died in 1930.
