JOHN A. COLLINS was born in Campbell County, Virginia, on March 7, 1827. In 1854 he married Mary I. Lynch and in 1856 they moved to a farm in Randolph County, Indiana. Seven years later, John Collins and his family moved to Brighton Township and in 1864 they purchased a 160-acre tract of land in the southeasternmost section of the township. John and Mary Collins had nine children - Elizabeth, Mary, Henry, Liston, Walter, Sarah, James, Susan and Cleopatra.
